GREAT LIGHTING FOR YOUR KITCHEN

You do important work in the kitchen. Some people enjoy cooking while others find it a boring chore. And if your kitchen is not well-lighed, food preparation will definitely be one of your least favorite household chores. For a kitchen, track lights are great. They can be installed even in sloped ceilings. They are also easy to replace. Aside from lights on the ceiling, you may also want to have lights near work zones. Lighting under cabinets is also important.  You can get halogen bulbs or fluorescent lights. They can be purchased at any hardware store near you.

HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THEME ROOMS?

Home makeover shows such as Extreme Makeovers always transform boring and plain rooms into theme rooms. So if the owner of the room loves the beach, he or she will get a beach-themed room. I have to admit that these kinds of rooms are very creative but I think that they will become boring after a while. What if the owner is no longer into the surfing lifestyle? Wouldn’t it be better to just give the owner a clean and classy room that has no obvious theme? Even if I were a surfer, I’d still love a room that has no theme. What do you think?

CHOOSING A PERFECT LOCATION FOR AN OUTDOOR SHOWER

Having an outdoor shower may seem like a medieval idea to you but it can be a wonderful luxury. Having one these days can bring you great convenience. The site where you install your shower will depend on how you will use it. If you will use it for rinsing after soaking in the pool, installing it near your pool is a great idea. If you want to use it for freshing up after a jog or a walk on the beach, you can place it in your backyard. This way, you will no longer be sweaty when you enter your house. You will also not trail sand on your floor.

WORKING WITH A SMALL HOME OFFICE

I work from home but I don’t have the luxury of space. I don’t have a specific room in the house where I can do my work. This is why the idea of having a wall or corner cubicle office appeals to  me. All I need is a small corner where I can fit a closet with enough space for my computer and printer. A 21-inch space is enough. For lighting, I can have a lamp or install lights under the cabinets or closet shelves. And if I’m not working, I can choose to have a door on this closet so that I can shut it and forget about work for a little while. Do you think my idea is great or would you rather work on the dining table?

MAKE THE BEST OUT OF YOUR SMALL BATHROOM

If, like me, you live in a cramped apartment, you are probably always whining about not having enough space in the bathroom. A small bathroom just doesn’t give you the luxury of a bath (since there is no place for a tub) or storage (since there are no places for cabinets and such). But if you do your own research, you will realize that there are many bathroom fixtures in the market that are perfect for small bathrooms. A 48-inch mini-claw tub is one example. You can get it brand new at around $1000 or you can buy one from a salvage yard for around $200. You can also buy a 2-feet sink that has a cabinet underneath. The possibilities are endless, even with a small bathroom.

BENEFITS OF A WINDOW SEAT

A window seat is a perfect space-saving technique. If you have a window seat, sitting and socializing will not be delegated mainly to places of your house where there are actual chairs. Moreover, a window seat is often constructed with storage space underneath. This space can be a perfect place to store toys, books, and seasonal clothing. Of course, nothing beats the fact that you can enjoy a view from a window seat. Not only is a window seat perfect for an intimate conversation or a quiet time alone, it is also a great spot for gazing out the yard or the garden.

WORST THINGS THAT YOU CAN DO TO YOUR HOMES

plasma3

Are you planning on changing the look of your home? Then read up because you may want to avoid these very bad design ideas:

1.Placing the plasma TV way above fireplace – You can do this if you want neck pains.
2.Too many flowers – Avoid floral tiles with floral wall papers and floral curtains.
3.Popcorn ceilings – Sure these make for good acoustics but they are just plain ugly. You can have good acoustics in your house even without the ugly ceiling.
4.Hanging kitchen cabinets too close to the work zone – Preparing food is just no fun if your head is too close to the cabinet and you can barely see what you’re doin

CLOSET LIGHTING

What’s the point of storing your stuff in a large closet when you can’t see them? This is why closet lights were invented. Sure you can use the light in the room where the closet is located but having a light behind you is not a great idea. You can cast a shadow onto the contents of the closet and this will make finding what you need even more difficult. For a good closet light, go for fluorescent. Never use incandescent bulbs because they can cause fire. And instead of a single light, you may want to consider lights under the shelves as well. These will definitely make your closet easier to navigate.

A SIMPLE DIY PROJECT FOR YOUR FOYER

Your foyer is where you dump your things the first moment that you enter your house. This is also where you hang your coat and keys. You can always buy a coat and key rack for your foyer but his is incredibly easy to make. For a coat rack, you will simply need a piece of wood that is about three feet by half a foot, several hooks, and a screws for bolting the rack to the wall. Assembly is easy because coat racks look rather simple. If you want to be more creative, you can use doorknobs or doll limbs instead of hooks.
